A pregnant woman, yet to be identified, along with eight others, suffered injuries of varying degrees following a gas explosion at Alaba Lane, Alayabiagba Community, Ajegunle-Apapa area, Lagos State. The incident occurred around 12:39 p.m. on Tuesday, as confirmed by Amodu Shakiru, Head of Public Education at the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

Initial findings suggest a gas cylinder, among many traded in the vicinity, ignited due to a possible leak, leading to a fire sparked by a broken high-tension cable.

The blaze damaged four commercial tricycles, six lock-up stores, and part of a bungalow. Swift response from the Federal Fire Service, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and local fire stations contained the situation.

The injured, including the pregnant woman, are receiving treatment at Gbagada Burn & Trauma Center and Ajeromi General Hospital after initial care by the Lagos State Ambulance Service. This incident comes after a recent fire gutted 14 buildings at Dosumu Market in Lagos Island.
