In Enugu State, police have apprehended a 22-year-old masquerader named Ugwuoke Ebube for the brutal assault of a nurse and another individual at Ugwuoye Junction, Nsukka. The incident occurred on May 12, 2024, and was disclosed by DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesperson, in a statement on May 22. Ebube, residing on Enugu Road, Nsukka, was brought before the Nsukka Magistrate Court and subsequently granted bail.
The assault, which involved a group of masqueraders, targeted a nurse named Miss Blessing Ogbonna. The attack, recorded in a viral video from April 2024, shows the nurse, in full uniform, being flogged until she fell off a motorbike. Despite her attempts to escape, the masqueraders continued to beat her, causing her to fall into a deep drainage. Miss Blessing later recounted that her view was obstructed by a tipper truck while she was en route to the hospital, leaving her unable to avoid the attackers in time.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident, and the case has drawn significant attention due to the violent nature of the assault and the involvement of traditional masqueraders in such a brutal act.
