The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old self-proclaimed native doctor following the death of a client during a failed demonstration of a charm. The incident took place on August 20 in Onumu Community, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to the police, the young native doctor specialized in making charms that were allegedly effective against gunshots and cutlass attacks. His client, Alex Ezekiel, sought a bulletproof charm from him. After preparing the charm, the native doctor attempted to prove its effectiveness by shooting Ezekiel. Unfortunately, the charm failed, and Ezekiel sustained fatal injuries.
Ezekiel was immediately rushed to Ifejola Hospital in Igarra, where doctors pronounced him dead. The police spokesman, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Monday. He assured that the suspect would be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
The tragic incident has brought attention to the dangers of such practices, and the police have urged the public to avoid resorting to native charms for protection.
