Culture has been a unique way different people live their lives.
There are different countries with various tribes in Africa and each have their own unique characteristic that differentiates them from other countries in Africa.
The Suri People have been a tourist attraction for people all over the world because of their unusual way of life.
Located in the western edge of the Omo Valley in Ethiopia, about 20km from the Sudanese border, The Suri people are part of the famous Surma tribe, known for the lip disks.
During the slave trade, the Surma started using the lip plate to disfigure themselves so that the Arab slave traders would not take them away. Over time, the practise became a sign of beauty for their women and hence it remaining in their culture.
To have the plates inserted, their bottom two teeth are removed before the hole is cut.
Apart from painful lips plate the tribe are also known for scarification and dangerous stickfighting.
They don’t usually likes clothing themselves because of their hot valley, so instead of beautifying themselves with the latest fashion brands, the children especially, beautify themselves with clay and chalk paintings which they apply at the riverside.
The most insane part of their culture is the way and manner their men eat blood.
Men from surma tribe drink a litre of fresh cow blood early in the morning.
The cow is not killed, the vein is just cut by knife and clot with dung.
They believe the fresh blood nourishes their skin.
