Three teenagers in Ilorin, Kwara State, set a three-bedroom house on fire after stealing food, clothing, and valuables. The incident occurred around noon in the Gaa Akanbi area when the group attempted a robbery that was thwarted by local residents. Eyewitnesses reported that in an effort to distract the community, one of the suspects, known as Isiaka, ignited a mattress, leading to significant damage.

The Kwara State Fire Service confirmed the fire was intentional, and responders managed to control the blaze within 25 minutes, although two rooms were completely destroyed. During the chaos, one of the teenagers, 18-year-old Olawumi Olamide, was apprehended after allegedly stabbing a man during the escape attempt. He was later handed over to security officials.

Olamide disclosed that Isiaka started the fire to facilitate their escape. The incident has raised concerns about safety in the community, prompting local authorities to urge vigilance to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps confirmed that Olamide remains in custody as investigations continue.
