UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho for verbally abusing referee Anthony Taylor after the Europa League final.
Mourinho was filmed calling Taylor a “disgrace” and using other profanities in the stadium car park after Roma lost to Sevilla in a penalty shootout.
Roma have also been charged for crowd disturbances, after their supporters threw objects, lit fireworks, and caused other problems.
Sevilla have also been charged with similar infractions.
The game was marred by a high number of fouls, and Taylor booked 13 players, seven of them from Roma.
After the game, Taylor was also targeted by angry Roma supporters at Budapest Airport.
The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), which represents referees in England, said it was “appalled” at the abuse directed at Taylor and his family.
The disciplinary proceedings against Mourinho and Roma are likely to result in sanctions, including fines and bans.
