Tunisian player sets self ablaze over ‘police injustice’
A Tunisian player, Nizar Issaoui has died after setting himself on fire in protest against ‘police injustice’ outside a police station on Thursday.
The player suffered a third-degree burn, and was unable to survive despite being rushed to the hospital.
Issaoui’s brother, Ryad confirmed that the player was buried yesterday.
According to a published video by the Father of four, he was protesting against police as he had been falsely accused of terrorism in Haffouz, Kairouan, central Tunisia, The Sun UK reports.
A video selfie circulating on social media shows Issaoui screaming: “For a dispute with someone selling bananas at 10 dinars (£2.65), I get accused of terrorism at the police station.
“Terrorism for a complaint about bananas.”
The footballer had claimed police accused him of “terrorism” when he complained about the price of a banana.
