Vincent Enyeama counters Orji Uzor Kalu’s Arsenal decision

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has criticised the ex-governor of Abia state Orji Uzor Kalu for wanting to buy a 35 per cent stake in English Premier League club Arsenal.

The Nigerian Senator recently took to Facebook to express his interest in acquiring part ownership of Arsenal FC, so as help them win their first UEFA Champions League trophy as well as back-to-back EPL titles.

He reckoned on his success with Nigerian Professional League heavyweights Enyimba FC, that won 9 titles (5 domestic league trophies, 2 CAF Champions league and Super Cup titles) during his reign as Governor.

“Our success with Enyimba football club between 2000-2007 has continuously increased my passion for football. As the pillar of sports in Africa, I am considering an investment in football and I will buy 35 percent stake in Arsenal FC.

“Our target is to lift the Champions League and Premier League back to back as we did with Enyimba,” Kalu wrote in a Facebook post on 16 November.

Vincent Enyeama who was an integral member of that all-conquering squad, however took to Twitter to counter that decision, he advised Kalu to instead use his money to make Enyimba a mega club.

He wrote:

“Why not invest that money in Enyimba and turn it into a mega club. A club that will bring in a lot of sponsors and create job opportunities for the youth,”

“Nigeria has no MEGA club side that we can boast of. What do I know. My mouth keeps putting me into trouble.”

Meanwhile, Orji Uzor Kalu is not the only Nigerian aiming to buy the Gunners, Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote has also frequently hinted on that prospect.
