The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has resolved the issue of the disrupted oriental derby between Rangers FC of Enugu and Enyimba FC of Aba.
Enyimba’s players walked off the field after Rangers were awarded a controversial penalty during added time at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu. Consequently, the NPFL awarded three points and three goals to Rangers. Enyimba received a N10 million fine for failing to control its players, disrupting the NPFL live broadcast, and causing the match’s abandonment.
Additionally, Enyimba players Eze Ekwutoziam, Chibuike Nwaiwu, and Akanni Elijah are under investigation for further sanctions.

Rangers have also been penalized for over-ticketing, leading to overcrowding, and inadequate security and crowd control measures, resulting in a cumulative fine of N5 million.
The NPFL’s decision includes a forfeiture of three points and three goals to Rangers, citing Enyimba’s refusal to allow the penalty to be taken, which disrupted the match and tarnished the league’s reputation. Enyimba must identify and produce for investigation other players and officials involved in the disruption, in addition to the three already named, to face appropriate sanctions.
