24-year-old Batlle is the first signing for Barcelona this summer and will encounter a significantly different team compared to the one she left six years ago.
She has agreed to join Barcelona on a three-year contract after her current contract with United expires at the end of June.
During her absence, Barcelona has reached four Champions League finals, a feat they had never achieved before, and won the competition twice in 2021 and this season.
Under the guidance of Jonatan Giraldez, the team has also won the Liga F title in each of the past four seasons and, recently, after securing the title, ended a remarkable unbeaten league streak of 64 games.
After progressing through Barcelona’s academy and playing for the B team, Batlle left the club in 2017 to join Madrid CFF in search of regular first-team opportunities. She spent one season in Madrid before signing with Levante.
In 2020, she joined Manchester United and made 77 appearances over three years in the Women’s Super League, helping the team qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history.
Batlle, who is capable of playing as a defender on either the left or right side, is also a regular member of the Spanish national team. However, she was among the 15 players who declared themselves unavailable for selection last September due to issues with the national team setup.
Nevertheless, she, along with her new Barcelona teammates Aitana Bonmati and Mariona Caldentey, returned to the squad last week for this summer’s World Cup.
