President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominees, submitted on Thursday, are scheduled to undergo Senate screening on Monday. The Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, announced that all activities in the Upper Chamber have been suspended to begin the screening promptly. Adaramodu made this announcement after President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, read out the names of the 28 nominees on the Senate floor.
The screening process will commence on Monday, and the Senate has set aside its vacation to accommodate the exercise. The screening will be conducted without time limitations, and nominees will present their plans to the Senate in the presence of the public.
The list of nominees includes prominent figures such as former Governors Nyesom Wike, Nasir El-Rufai, and David Umahi, as well as other notable individuals from various states. Notably, the list excludes nominees from 11 states, but the Senate has referred the list to the Committee of the Whole.
Additionally, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajamiabila, revealed that another list of 13 ministerial nominees will be announced soon. President Tinubu aims to potentially create new ministries or restructure existing ones, and the nominees’ portfolios have not been specified to provide flexibility in assigning roles.
The Chief of Staff anticipates that the cabinet will be fully formed and operational within the next two weeks, as the Senate is expected to conduct a thorough but expedient confirmation process.
