Oluwafemi Damilola, a man from Ondo town, Ondo State, was brought before a Chief Magistrate Court by four women who accused him of deceiving them out of N45,000. The women, who were sex workers, claimed that the defendant had engaged in sexual activities with them and then paid them with a fraudulent transaction alert.
The defendant was subsequently arrested by the local police. The four complainants were identified as Glory David, Akere Bright, Valria Isaac, and Ngozi Okoro.
Damilola was charged with two counts of fraud and appeared in court. The police prosecutor, Mr. Akano Moremi, stated that the defendant had committed the offense in October 2022 in the Sabo area of Ondo town.
The charge sheet accused Damilola of engaging in sexual acts with Glory David, Valria Isaac, Akere Bright, and Ngozi Okoro under false pretenses, defrauding them by sending a fake alert of N45,000, and causing a breach of peace.
The prosecutor informed the court that five witnesses would be called to testify in the case and requested time to review the case file. However, the defendant’s counsel, Mr. S. A. Iluyemi, mentioned ongoing settlement negotiations between the parties. He requested the court to release the defendant into his custody and assured that the defendant would compensate the complainants before the next adjourned date.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Charity Adeyanju, granted the defendant’s counsel’s application and ordered the defendant to pay the complainants their money before the next scheduled court appearance.
