New year celebration is one of the oldest and universally marked observances. It is a period when the world prepares for a fresh start to a new calendar year.
All over the world, new year comes with sharing, eating, greetings, dancing, and having fun.
However, not all countries will welcome the new year at the same time.
Though the new year will be welcomed throughout the day around the earth, not all countries will experience it at the same time.
Countries like Tonga, Kiribati, and Samoa in Oceania will be the first place to Mark the new year celebration. These countries are tiny Pacific Island nations.
While places like the United States, Baker Island, and Howland will be the last to welcome the new year.
The difference is a result of something called the International Date Line which extends from the North Pole to the South pole through the middle to the Pacific ocean.
The International Date Line was made to cross through the ocean so that countries don’t have to go through multiple date zones within the sauce of a few kilometers.
