Former Kano Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, has emphasized that Nigerians must not endure political mistreatment passively and should not be cowed by political leaders. He has underlined that holding politicians accountable is vital to prevent potential harm to future generations and the country’s integrity.
Sanusi, a former head of Nigeria’s Central Bank, highlighted that lack of direct involvement in politics does not render Nigerians inferior, and people should not be afraid to voice their opinions from their comfort zones. In a widely circulated video, he expressed that political figures, even as presidents or governors, should not escape criticism.
The former Emir pointed out that refraining from politics doesn’t imply submission; rather, it’s important for Nigerians to recognize their worth. He called for a collective realization that the tolerance for unjust practices from politicians must diminish. Sanusi emphasized that if current complacency continues, the consequences for future generations could be dire, leaving them with an unrecognizable nation.
He stressed that non-participation in politics should not translate to apathy. Sanusi urged citizens to actively hold political leaders accountable for their actions. He acknowledged that challenging politicians isn’t easy, especially when they are inept and harbor animosity, but this confrontation is necessary for the nation’s wellbeing.
In particular, Sanusi directed his message to the youth, urging them not to falter. He declared that the future belongs to the young generation, urging them to actively engage in the process of nation-building. He concluded by emphasizing the significance of reclaiming the nation’s destiny through active participation and scrutiny of political affairs.
