Yoo Myung-Hee says she is dropping from the WTO race.
South Korea’s candidate for the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Yoo Myung-Hee has announced she would be dropping her bid to become the next director-general of the World Trade Organization, clearing the path for Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala who the General Council announced late last year as the consensus candidate.
South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said in a news released on Friday Feb 5th, that its minister for trade, Yoo Myung-hee, will soon tell the WTO she is withdrawing her candidacy as World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General.
The South Korean ministry said Yoo discussed her candidacy with officials from the United States and other WTO member states before deciding to withdraw over “comprehensive” considerations.
