Activist Aisha Yesufu, founder of Citizens Hub, has declared that she will actively oppose Peter Obi if he chooses to run as a vice-presidential candidate in the 2027 presidential election. Aisha Yesufu expressed her dissatisfaction in a video, questioning why Nigerians always expect top-tier candidates to settle for second place.
This reaction follows reports suggesting that Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, expressed a willingness to work as a vice president if a more qualified candidate emerged. Obi emphasized that his priority is improving the lives of Nigerians, rather than focusing solely on winning elections.

Obi had previously stated his openness to collaborating with other political figures, including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, provided the partnership aimed to alleviate poverty and improve citizens’ welfare. However, he made it clear that any alliance must be centered on benefiting the people, not just for electoral victory.

Despite these reports, Obi refuted claims that he would run as a vice-presidential candidate in 2027. He clarified via his official X account that his comments had been misrepresented, and he remains focused on addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges like hunger, poverty, and insecurity, rather than discussing the 2027 elections at this time.
