Following the consistent pressures mounted by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state, on the federal ministry of works and the the contractor handling the project, Arab Contractors limited, an agreement was however reached for the company to commence work on the portion of the highway from osisioma junction down to Alaoji where the spare parts market is located.
At a meeting held at the governor’s lodge government house umuahia on 13th November 2020, between governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the federal controller of works in Abia state Engr. Obioha and a representative of Arab Construction, it was agreed that work shall commence from 25th November and expected to be fully completed by 5th December 2020.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has also given the contractors handling two federal roads in the state, the Enugu-Port Harcourt express road and the Aba-Ikot Ekpene highways up to 28th November 2020 to return to sites and failure to do so, the government would be forced to take over the reconstruction of certain critical Abia portion of those roads.
Ikpeazu said that his administration would no longer fold its arms and watch the people suffer untold hardship as a result of the complete dilapidation of the roads.
