The National Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that the reported reconciliation between Senator Rochas Okorocha and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, will not impact the PDP’s prospects in the upcoming governorship election.
Dauda Lawal, Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council and governor of Zamfara State, dismissed concerns about the reconciliation during a press conference in Abuja. He drew from his experience in Zamfara State, asserting that such developments are not unusual.
Lawal also discussed the ongoing reconciliation efforts within the Imo State Chapter of the PDP, emphasizing the party’s commitment to resolving internal issues. He urged the people of Imo to remain steadfast and confident in the party’s victory in the upcoming election.
Senator Sam Anyanwu, the PDP Governorship candidate for the Imo State election, echoed Lawal’s sentiment. He highlighted his efforts to unify the party and reconcile differing factions, acknowledging the challenges in dealing with everyone’s concerns.
Anyanwu emphasized that the election transcends individual candidates; it’s about the wellbeing of Imo people and the state’s future. He expressed his belief in PDP’s historical influence in Imo and its strong connection with the populace.
Anyanwu brushed off adversities faced during the campaign, including the destruction of a campaign chairman’s hotel and billboards. He remained resolute in his determination to restore PDP’s prominence in Imo. He argued that the Southeast region is a stronghold for the PDP and pledged to counter efforts to diminish its presence there.
Ultimately, both Lawal and Anyanwu conveyed unwavering confidence in the PDP’s ability to secure victory in the election, despite reconciliations within the opposing party and challenges encountered along the way.
