Nigerian gay rights activist Victor Emmanuel has reportedly ended his hunger strike at the National Assembly.
Victor, an advocate for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer persons in Nigeria, began his one-man protest on an empty stomach on Saturday March 20.
He came out with the #RepealSSMPA campaign due to the state-supported homophobia and consequent violence on queer people in Nigeria.
The young man initially decided not to end his hunger strike until the law to prosecute LGBTQ people (Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act) was repealed.
However, according to Sahara Reporters, Victor has now ended his hunger strike to avoid sacrificing himself to a government that can hardly listen to him.
According to him, some members of the LGBTQ+ community suggested he goes through legislative means rather than putting his life on the line.
