Astronomy Research group leader of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Prof. Augustine Ubachukwu reported that Nigeria and some African countries would witness the first total Lunar Eclipse of the year by 16 May 2022.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he added that the second eclipse is expected to occur on November 8.
The event will occur in the early hours of Monday 16 May 2022 and would be obvious in other parts of Africa.
In Nigeria, the Lunar eclipse is expected to begin around 2:30 am till around 5:11 am, and then ends at 6:30am. Making it a total of about Four hours.
He also added that the dominant color of the light seen during the eclipse will be red.
Unlike Solar eclipse which requires special glass to view, Lunar Eclipse is safe to view with the naked eyes.
