The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) blocked the Benin-Asaba-Onitsha expressway over the demand to end the ASUU strike.
The protesters stormed the Koka Area of the highway in Asaba with the intention of halting activities in government until the Federal Government and the Academic staff union of the University resolve the issues.
Oghale Emeka Rex, the Deputy Coordinator of NANS in South-South and South-East revealed that the decision to hold the nation hostage was taken two weeks ago in Sokoto State.
However, students in South-South delayed in implementing the decision in a bid to lobby governor’s in the region to prevail on Federal Government on the need to accede to ASUU demands, but they were ignored by the governor which lead to them protesting.
He also revealed the intentions of the protesters to move to the Federal Secretariat in Asaba.
This is not the first time that NANS is going on a protest.
