Shatu Garko emerged the 44th winner of Miss Nigeria.
The 18 year old hijab model and Kano born got her crown as the latest Miss Nigeria on Friday, 17 December 20121 at Landmark Center, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The model was recently celebrated as first hijab model to land a modelling job in Nigeria.
Shatu Garko represented North West zone in the contest and won out the ladies who were part of the competition.
“Wining this competition means a lot to me “- Garko said before being crowned.
The new miss Nigeria said she is passionate about proving that religion and culture are not barriers to following ones dream and achievements.
Shatu Garko who succeeded Etsanyi Tukura of Taraba state went home with a prize of 10 million Naira, 1 year luxury residency apartment, a brand new car and brand ambassador opportunities.
Manager, Miss Nigeria Organisation, Chioma Nwigwe, spoke about being part of empowerment.
“This has always been about empowerment. Miss Nigeria platform is beyond the beauty pageant,” Nwigwe said. “We are very committed to empowering women, girls and providing opportunities for women to grow”
“Miss Nigeria is a full-time job. It’s a 9-5 job. That is what a lot of people don’t know. It’s beyond the fun, the glamour and Miss Nigeria is always looking for someone who is committed to doing that.
