The Labour Party (LP) is continuing its defense of the petition against Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State at the Election Tribunal. The party called the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as its first witness to provide evidence supporting the allegation of certificate forgery against the governor.
During the hearing, the NYSC presented documents, including the alleged forged discharge certificate used by Mbah and the original certificate he should have obtained. A letter from a law firm requesting scrutiny of the certificate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by the governor was also presented.
The petitioners’ legal team led the witness’s testimony, and objections were raised by the respondents’ counsels regarding the admissibility of the evidence. The tribunal admitted the documents and reserved ruling on the objections. Another witness, a lawyer named Mary Nneoma Elijah, was presented by the petitioners, and objections were raised to her deposition as well.
The court admitted her deposition and reserved ruling on the matter. The witness also presented letters exchanged between her law firm, INEC, and a letter requesting the production of an appointment letter for the governor. The documents were admitted as evidence. The next hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
