The Kwara Government has issued a directive to reduce the number of work days per week for all employees in the state from five to three.
The decision was made in response to the significant increase in transportation costs. The directive was announced in a statement by Murtala Atoyebi, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, in Ilorin.
The State Head of Service, Mrs Susan Oluwole, has instructed all Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to establish a schedule that specifies the alternating work days for each employee under their supervision.
Furthermore, Oluwole explained that this measure is a temporary solution aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by public workers in the state, particularly due to the removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government.
She also cautioned the workers against taking advantage of the governor’s generosity and emphasized that her office would intensify monitoring of the MDAs to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
