For the first time, the Igbo Language will be taught at the University of Oxford, one of the leading tertiary institutions in the world.
The news came following the induction of the first Igbo Language Lecturer at theUniversity of Oxford, Emmanuel Umeonyirioha who disclosed it on his Twitter handle. The post so far has received great excitement from Netizens Twitter.
I am officially the first official Igbo Language lecturer at the number one university in the world, the University of Oxford.
“Our induction happened today (Thursday) by Marion Sadoux, Head of Modern Language Programmes, University of Oxford Language Centre,” He added.
The Lecturer also disclosed that the James Currey Society made it possible for the introduction of the Igbo Language in the University.
The society was founded by Onyeka Nwelue who doubles as the Director. James Currey Society is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the study of works of British publisher, James Currey.
