President Muhammadu Buhari while speaking at a State Banquet in Adamawa stated that he does not have one square inch outside Nigeria.
This is coming against the backdrop of an allegation of illicit enrichment against the President.
President Buhari recounted his experience in leading the country in the last seven and a half years and noted that nobody could blackmail him on inexplicable wealth and illicit enrichment while in office.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adeshina, he restated his vow to serve God and Nigeria until his last day in office and beyond, and urged Nigerians to remain patriotic, recalling what he had said more than 30 years ago that ” we have no other country than Nigeria, we must all stay here and salvage it together.’’
Also, the President spoke extensively on his level of work in combating insecurity in the nation. He expressed delight that the states affected by insecurity are returning to Normalcy noting that the most security challenge Inherited by the administration was the pervasive threat of terrorism.
In addition, the president noted that fighting corruption is not easy in this administration as compared to when he was in the military, as Head of State.
He remarked that locked up some people because the Constitution says you must declare your assets and for people who couldn’t explain the differences in their assets, I locked them up.
Furthermore, he disclosed that he was also locked up.
So, “if you want to serve this country you must be prepared for the worst.” He added.
“But one thing that I am grateful to God for is that nobody can blackmail me. I do not have one-square inch outside Nigeria and I intend to stay in Nigeria when I retire from public office”, he said.
