The Ekiti State Government strongly condemned the planned three-day kiss-a-thon organized by a particular group in the state, labeling it as immoral and detrimental to public health. The government asserted that such an event would not be permitted to take place within the state.
The kiss-a-thon, aimed at setting a Guinness World Record, was scheduled to be held at a hospitality establishment in Ekiti State. A statement issued by Adelusi A.L on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Tourism, and made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, expressed the ministry’s view that the event was preposterous, immoral, and had the potential to tarnish Ekiti’s reputation.
The Ministry urged members of the Ekiti State Hoteliers’ Association to diligently monitor their establishments to prevent them from being used in a negative manner that could bring embarrassment to the government and people of Ekiti State.
The statement declared, “The State Government has been informed of the planned hosting of a ‘Kiss-a-thon’ in Ekiti State. According to the information received by this Ministry, the kiss-a-thon, a three-day kissing marathon event, is scheduled to take place on July 7, 2023, at a hospitality venue within the State. This event is purportedly intended to set a Guinness World Record.
“The ‘Kiss-a-thon‘ event is not only nonsensical, but it is also unhealthy, immoral, and capable of diminishing the reputation of the state. It contradicts the values upheld by the people of Ekiti and could potentially have a negative impact on the moral development of our youth. In light of these concerns, the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Tourism hereby prohibits the hosting of this event or any similar events in any establishment that wishes to continue operating lawfully in Ekiti State.
“As a result, you are hereby requested to relay the content of this notice to the members of the Ekiti State Hoteliers’ Association, emphasizing the importance of diligently monitoring their establishments to prevent any activities that may bring embarrassment to the Government and People of Ekiti State.”
