Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Kogi State Governorship, emphasized that the upcoming elections present an opportunity for PDP to triumph. Melaye highlighted the extent of damage caused by the outgoing All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, stating that this situation positions PDP as the party to beat. He shared these thoughts after a meeting held in Abuja, where Kogi PDP stakeholders from the three Senatorial zones gathered, alongside the National Working Committee members.
Melaye conveyed the dire circumstances faced by Kogi State, including economic distress, unpaid salaries, pensions, and gratuities, a deteriorating healthcare system, and a stagnant education sector. He pledged PDP’s commitment to address these challenges and bring relief to the people. He called on the citizens not to be intimidated by the APC’s tactics and to exercise their democratic rights freely.
Umar Damagun, the Acting National Chairman of PDP, expressed optimism about the party’s victory in the upcoming election. He highlighted the importance of the meeting in ensuring a unified front among party members and supporters across the state. Damagun revealed a three-stage reconciliation process to address issues within the party’s ranks, led by senior stakeholders.
He revealed that the Kogi Campaign Committee Chairman, also the Osun State Governor, would personally engage with party members across various zones to campaign and address their concerns. Damagun encouraged leaders to collaborate with the party’s efforts and suggested that they identify areas where the party’s intervention would be most effective.
In conclusion, the PDP candidate and party leadership conveyed their determination to rectify the current state of affairs in Kogi State. The meeting reflected their commitment to unity, reconciliation, and a concerted effort to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
