The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested Rachel Geoffrey, a 23-year-old stepmother, for allegedly inflicting severe burns on her 7-year-old and 3-year-old stepchildren. This incident was reported by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, on X on Saturday.
According to the police statement, Geoffrey intentionally burned the children’s hands as punishment for eating food she had saved for their father. The police detailed that on May 15, 2024, they arrested Geoffrey, a resident of Federal Housing Estate in Girei local government area, for the incident which occurred on May 14, 2024.

The victims, Genesis Geoffrey, aged 7, and Ijadai Geoffrey, aged 3, have reportedly faced multiple instances of cruelty and human rights violations from their stepmother following the separation of their mother from their father. The police expressed particular concern over this recent act of cruelty.
Geoffrey allegedly prepared rice and kept it for her husband before leaving the house. When the hungry children ate the food, she became enraged. She then tied their hands with a handkerchief, rendering them powerless, and set fire to their hands, causing severe injuries.
