The Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja dismissed an application made by Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate, seeking permission to question the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the technology used in the general elections.
Obi wanted INEC to answer 12 specific questions related to the functionality test of the technological system used, the patches/updates deployed, the occurrence and resolution of technical glitches, the percentage of election results uploaded on the I-Rev platform, and the discrepancies between the presidential and National Assembly elections.
Obi believed that these answers were crucial for his petition challenging the victory of President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, the court struck out the application as it was filed after the pre-hearing period. The court did allow Obi to present two video recordings as evidence, one featuring INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu assuring electronic transmission of results, and the other featuring INEC National Commissioner Mr. Festus Okoye confirming real-time transmission and accessibility of the I-Rev portal. Channels Television provided the recordings as evidence, marked as Exhibits.
