Court in Kano State has sentenced a primary school teacher Abdulmalik Tanko to death by hanging for killing his five-year old school pupil Hanifa Abubakar.
Justice Usman Na’abba, who is presiding over the case, gave the decision on Thursday, July 28, 2022.
The court found Abdulmalik Tanko guilty of kidnapping Hanifa, murdering her and conspiring to kidnap her.
Then the court found Hashimu Isyaku guilty of complicity in the murder of Hanifa and concealing the crime of kidnapping Hanifa, and knowing that Hanifa was kidnapped.

Then the court acquitted Fatima Jibril of the accusation of writing a letter to Hanifa’s parents informing them that she had been kidnapped.
However, she was found guilty of abducting Hanifa, knowing that she had been kidnapped.
After reading the charges against the defendants, all of them asked the court to be lenient.
The court sentenced Abdulmalik to death by hanging for killing Hanifa and five years in a correctional facility for kidnapping.
The court sentenced Fatima to two years in a correctional facility for the role she played in her kidnapping.
The judge also sentenced Hashimu to two years in a correctional facility.
Hanifa Abubakar was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by Mr Tanko, who was her teacher, and the other suspects.
Her remains were discovered in the premises of a school owned by Mr Tanko after a ransom had been paid for her release.
The incident ignited outrage across Nigeria, drawing condemnations from President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife, Aisha.
