The Alaafin of Oyo, Ọbá Lamidi Adeyemi III, has been laid to rest today, Saturday 23rd April, 2022. His remains were buried within the premises of the palace in the ancient town of Oyo in South West Nigeria.
Recall that the Alaafin of Oyo died on Friday 22nd April, 2022 after battling with an illness. He died at the age of 83 and had been on the throne for over fifty years. He was the longest reigning Alaafin of Oyo.

It has been gathered that Yusuf Ayoola, head of the Oyomesi and Bashorun of Oyo will now take over the throne, pending the installation of a new Alaafin.
The Alaafin of Oyo’s burial was attended by family members who were joined by the chief Imam of Oyo town and some of his chiefs. They offered prayers for the repose of his soul. See photo excerpts from the funeral:
