The Abia State Government has terminated the employment of all public servants hired during the final phase of former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s tenure. A circular issued on August 31, 2022, by Lady Joy Maduka, the Head of Service, identified the affected employees as those who were recruited from December 2022 onwards.
The circular explained that this action aligns with the ongoing restructuring of the Abia State Public Service and complies with the Abia State Public Service Rules.
The Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, has instructed the removal of all individuals employed in the Abia State Public Service from December 2022 onwards. Additional directives from the Governor on this matter will be communicated in due course.
Governor Alex Otti, speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko, clarified that this decision was made by the State Executive Council. He emphasized that the previous administration had engaged in widespread hiring as part of its campaign efforts, which the current administration found unacceptable.
Consequently, the State Executive Council decided to reverse these hirings in the best interest of the state, stating that they were essentially campaign-based recruitments and not sustainable.
