2 people have allegedly been killed in a clash between police and okada men in Anambra state.
According reports, it all started when an okada man was shot on Tuesday night in Igbo-ukwu area of Anambra State by a policeman.
The angry youths and okada men in Igbo-ukwu started rioting and in the process, they burnt down the police station located in Igbo-ukwu, and proceeded to the police station in Ekwulobia.
The policemen at Ekwulobia started shooting and spraying tear gas and in the process killed another person. Prompting the youths to blocked major roads making it difficult for the motorist to move freely.
A source confirmed that the state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, said the Commissioner of Police in the state, John Abang, had ordered the arrest of the officer who killed the okada man while appealing for peace.
He said, there was an argument between some policemen and okada riders over some impounded motorcycles as a result of the recent restriction on movement of motorcycles beyond 9 pm in the State.
“The situation degenerated into a fight which led to an accidental discharge that hit one okada rider.
“The Commissioner of Police, John Abang, has ordered the detention of the policemen involved and investigation into the matter is ongoing.
