S£x deprived female prisoners in Kenya are pleading with the authorities to enact new regulations that will offer them the opportunity to have sexual intimacy with their spouses when they visit.
One of the inmates, Sofia Swaleh who is serving a life sentence, pleaded on behalf of other prisoners to increase the time given to their visiting spouses and relatives so as to give room for intimacy.

“The Government, through the leadership of Kenyan prisons, should introduce a law that allows women serving lengthy jail terms enjoy s£xual intimacy with their visiting husbands,” Swaleh of the Mtangani GK Prison in Malindi, Kilfi County said.
A senior administrator in the prison, Purity Nkatha Muthaura, made it known that that the request from the female inmates or even their incarcerated male counterparts cannot be granted unless a new law is passed by the Parliament.

This is not the first time inmates have requested to have conjugal visits introduced into the Kenyan prisons. A similar request was made in 2014 & 2020, but the Government was not in favour because it was not ready for such arrangements in the detention facilities.
