The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested several people in recent weeks for various crimes, including child defilement, kidnapping, and oil theft.
In one case, a man named Sunday Michael Ben was arrested for allegedly defiling his six-year-old daughter. The victim was taken to the hospital for medical examination, which confirmed that she had been defiled.
In another case, a man named Bright Nwoke was arrested for allegedly defiling a ten-year-old girl. Nwoke confessed to the crime and said that he had sent the victim’s younger brother to buy a recharge card before taking her to his room and covering her mouth to prevent her from raising an alarm.
The police also arrested three suspected kidnappers, including a woman named Nanai Friday Ekpo. Ekpo confessed to luring unsuspecting men to her boyfriend, who is still at large, to kidnap and collect ransom for them to share. The suspects have all been charged to court.
In a separate incident, the police arrested the alleged site engineer of a four-storey building that collapsed in Uyo in September 2022, killing one person and injuring five others. The suspect, Felix Anietie Udoh, confessed to not being an engineer but a builder.
The police command has vowed to continue to crack down on crime in the state and bring perpetrators to justice.
