Sex workers in Kano have urged the organizers of the nationwide hunger protests to seek dialogue with the Federal Government, expressing concern over the impact the unrest has had on their livelihoods.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, several workers described how the protests have severely disrupted social and economic activities, leaving them without clients and struggling to survive.
Monica James, who operates on France Road, emphasized the importance of dialogue in resolving the protesters’ grievances. “I haven’t eaten for two days because of the curfew; our customers are nowhere to be found,” she said, calling on the protest organizers to consider negotiations with the government to bring an end to the demonstrations.

Deborah Iliya, who works on Yoruba Road, echoed James’ concerns, describing the situation as dire, as she has been unable to find customers.
Hannatu Ibrahim, who operates in the Weatherhead area, also called for an end to the protests, joining others in appealing for a return to normalcy.
Caroline James, a sex worker based in a brothel on Enugu Street in Sabon Gari, lamented that the infiltration of hoodlums and subsequent violence have disrupted their business. She shared that she had secured clients willing to pay between N30,000 and N40,000, but the tension and curfew prevented them from keeping their appointments.
Another sex worker, who chose to remain anonymous, mentioned that some of her colleagues have had to share rooms due to the lack of customers during the protests. She appealed to the authorities to ease the curfew, highlighting its detrimental impact on their ability to work.
Moses John, a bar attendant, informed NAN that the curfew has drastically affected businesses in Sabon Gari, with hotels and bars seeing little to no patronage due to the absence of customers.
Similarly, Kenneth John, a goat head seller on Aitken Road, lamented the negative impact the curfew has had on his business, citing losses of several goat heads due to the lack of power supply.
