On Sunday, a driver operating a yellow Volkswagen ‘T4’ bus with license plate LSR 966 YE found himself in a dire situation when he was apprehended by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police. This dramatic event unfolded at the Costain Round-About in the Surulere area of Lagos, Nigeria.
The LASTMA officer leading the enforcement team, Olajide Olukoga, known as ‘Bravo,’ explained that the driver of the Volkswagen ‘T4’ bus was taken into custody for a severe traffic violation. Specifically, he had been picking up passengers directly on the main expressway, causing significant traffic disruptions for other road users in the vicinity of Costain towards Iponrin.
This enforcement operation took place after numerous warnings issued by the state government to commercial bus and private car drivers, emphasizing the importance of using designated bus stops for picking up and dropping off passengers throughout the state.
The situation took a violent turn when the driver, attempting to evade capture after reckless driving, brandished a knife and attacked Officer Olukoga. In the chaos that followed, he inflicted a deep wound on the officer before resorting to stripping himself naked and creating further disturbances. Fortunately, police officers from the Iponri Police Station arrived and managed to apprehend the assailant.

During the arrest, security officers discovered dangerous weapons, including a cutlass and knife, concealed within the commercial Volkswagen ‘T4’ bus.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, confirmed the incident and declared that the suspected attacker would face immediate prosecution. This stern response is intended to serve as a deterrent to other defiant drivers who flout traffic rules and resort to violence against law enforcement officers.
