Last Wednesday in Amaiyi, Umuaka, Njaba local government area of Imo state, a distressing incident took place where a nine-month-old baby girl, belonging to Precious Duru, a resident of Oguta council area, was kidnapped. The incident was confirmed by a local named elder Vincent Durugbo, speaking to reporters in Owerri.
The incident involved a neighbor named Fabiana Paulinus, who is alleged to be responsible for the abduction. According to Durugbo, the baby’s mother had recently moved to a house in Amaiyi, and the kidnapper, who supposedly works as a teacher at Saviours Catholic Secondary School in Umuaka, offered to help carry the baby but disappeared with her.
The young mother, aged about 19, is not married but has a nine-month-old baby. The community has experienced similar incidents before, with a recent case in the Amako community where a neighbor abducted four children, and their whereabouts remain unknown.
This trend of abductions is a cause for concern, especially for people from Oguta, as some parts of the area are facing crises, leading residents to relocate to Umuaka for safety reasons.
As of now, the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Henry Okoye, has not yet responded to the inquiry on the matter.
