Enjoying quality time with your family, friends and colleagues at the beach or pool is quite exciting. However, swimming comes with some disadvantages when we don’t take good care of our skin and hair before and after swimming.
Salt water and chlorine can damage your long locks and flawless skin if care is not taken.
Here are 5 ways to protect your hair and skin when swimming:
1. Apply conditioner or hair oil
It’s highly advisable to apply a deep conditioner or natural oil like coconut oil to your hair to prevent dryness before going into the pool.
This helps to create a layer between your hair and the chlorine and other chemicals in the pool and also helps nourish the hair follicles.
2. Shower before you swim
Your hair and skin are less likely to absorb water from the pool once they’re already wet. So, make sure you’re good and soaked right before you go to increase resistance.

3. Wear a shower cap
After you’ve had a shower and applied a conditioner or hair oil, put on a cap to prevent exposure.
However, for maxim chlorine resistance, it’s best to wash and condition first.
4. Use the right comb
Use a wide-toothed comb to remove tangles after washing. Avoid using blow dryers if you can, as that will limit damage to your hair.
5. Wash after swimming
After swimming, use a sulfate-free shampoo to wash your hair and skin in order to get rid of all those chemicals.
Stay in the shower for at least 5 minutes to remove possible chlorine in your follicles.
