Akara is a local dish that can be found along the streets of Nigeria. It is cripsy, golden in colour and is usually taken with a bowl of pap, a freshly baked bread or eaten alone as a snack.
Preparing akara is not difficult though most times, you do not get the desired round shape of akara you want.
See the secrets to getting a well shaped akara:
1. Grind/blend your beans well, do not add too much water while grinding if not it becomes watery and will not form a good ball.
2. Make sure you whisk well to incorporate air into the blended beans. This will help yield a light akara.
3. When whisking the blended beans with a whisker or the traditional mortal and pestle, use little water too, to avoid the akara being flat.
4. Fry in a deep pan, it gives better result than using a shallow pan.
5. Use hot oil. Make sure that your oil is well heated before you scoop in your beans batter.
Serve hot!
