Getting to forget things at some point is not totally out of place. Some people tend to have others remind them of events, appointments, or random things.
However, forgetfulness becomes an issue when it becomes repetitive and happens often.
People with long-lasting memory rarely go through things that people with short-term memory do. In as much as your memory is not something you can touch or handle physically, you could create habits to help you develop long-lasting memory.
Here are habits you should avoid:
1. Spending too much time in the dark
Spending so much time in the dark prevents your brain from getting enough exposure to sunlight and this can lead to problems like seasonal affective disorder or depression. Sunlight helps to reduce depression rates. Be sure you get plenty of sunlight daily.
2. Eating too many junk foods
The food you eat has a role to play in your health. Part of the brain is linked to learning, memory, and mental health. Your brain requires vegetables or other healthy foods because too much junk can cause damage to your brain.
3. Spending too much time at a spot
Spending so much time at a particular spot is not ideal. You could take walks or just move about if you feel you’ve been in a spot for a long. It is a means of exercising and enhancing well-being.

4. Isolating yourself from others
Communication and socialization are parts of exercising your brain and making your memory last longer. Isolating yourself so much from people makes you less productive or makes you gloomy, and this can affect your mental health and brain.
5. Taking excessive alcohol
Drinking too much alcohol regularly can affect your memory you may not experience the effect immediately but later on in life.
6. Insufficient sleep
Poor sleep quality and lack of sleep can cause memory loss or short-term memory. It can even lead to a case of dementia.
7. Smoking
Smoking leads to a shorter memory because smoking thins the brain context which leads to memory loss. The cortex is the outer layer of the brain that naturally thins as you age, but when you smoke it thins faster than necessary making your brain age more quickly.
