Having period cramps are very common with women. Statistically, 80% of women experience period pain at some point in their lifetime.
While some women experience this discomfort on the first day of their monthly cycle, some don’t experience pain at all. Period pains can be aggravated by some foods. The foods you eat play an important role as your time of the month draws near.
Here are some foods you need to avoid, close to or during that time of the month:
1. Salty Foods
Many people experience bloating when they are close to their monthly period, and this is caused by hormonal changes. To avoid worsening the situation, avoid eating foods containing a huge amount of sodium because such foods encourage water retention in the body which can also lead to bloating.
2. Caffeine
Caffeine can cause dehydration and this can worsen menstrual cramps. It can also cause vasoconstriction which is the narrowing of blood vessels and this will definitely cause a lot of pain.
3. Processed Foods
Processed foods are made with chemicals and preservatives and they can also contain trans fat and saturated fat that causes discomfort.
