This is one food to avoid eating on an empty stomach because it tends to increase your chances of getting stomach discomfort such as diarrhoea or a stomach upset.

It also increases the odds of getting acidic reactions and cramps and also triggers indigestion and irritate the stomach lining.

2. Citrus fruits

Citrus contains citric acid and for people with heartburn already, eating citrus fruits on an empty stomach just leads to more irritation, bloating and indigestion.

3. Sugar

Sugary foods should also be avoided because they contain a high amount of sugar. Taking sugary foods on an empty stomach can lead to an overburdening of your liver and pancreas with excess fructose.

4. Yoghurt

Taking yoghurt on an empty stomach makes the benefits of the lactic acid found in it to become ineffective. This means that most of the health benefits of yoghurt are lost when you take it on an empty stomach.

5. Coffee

Taking coffee on an empty stomach leads to secretion of hydrochloric acid in the digestive system, which further causes gastritis, bloating and acidity.
