I was listening to @892cbsfm and discovered they were repeatedly pronouncing the name of popular Swiss international as “Embo” without completing it.
It got me wondering why most Ugandan Radio Commentators have refused to say out Breel Embolo’s complete name on air! Have you also wondered why?
Breel Donald Embolo, is a professional footballer who plays as a forward for Ligue 1 club Monaco and the Switzerland national team. His name EMBOLO means the edible bluish fleshy fruit of the Cape ebony in Cameroon where he’s originally from.

However, for a country like Uganda, the name “Embolo” has an awful meaning and that’s the reason why it’s difficult for commentators to say it out on air. For the East Africans, “Embolo” is a Luganda word which literally means a ‘Penis’. Imagine saying such words on air!
