‘We’ll Be ready, On 2021 AFCON Preparations” – Super Eagles Goalkeeper Okoye Says
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Sparta Rotterdam rookie goalkeeper Maduka Okoye on Monday has assured that the Super Eagles will be ready for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations holding in Cameroon early next year.

The three-time African champions qualified for the tournament with two games to spare after Lesotho and Sierra Leone played out a goalless draw, before they took to the pitch against Republic of Benin.

If manager Gernot Rohr were to draw up a list of players on the plane to Cameroon now, Okoye will certainly be among the goalkeepers chosen, with the German football tactician naming him as the number 1 last month.

Okoye has revealed that he has aspirations of playing in the number one football event in Africa.

Speaking to reporters at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Monday, Okoye said:

“For me it is a dream come true, hopefully we will all be ready for the AFCON, prepare well and prepare good as we do always. “I think we are very ready for the AFCON”.

Of the five matches Okoye has started for the Super Eagles, he kept a clean sheet in the last two matches after conceding six goals in the previous three.
