Tottenham’s impressive beginning under Ange Postecoglou continued as they secured a 2-0 victory against Bournemouth, propelling them to the top of the Premier League standings. James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski were the key figures in this triumph.
Despite the departure of their all-time top scorer Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, Postecoglou’s team has adapted well. Maddison, a recent addition to the squad, played a pivotal role in their positive performances. Maddison netted his first goal for Tottenham at the 17-minute mark, reflecting their dominance in the first half.
However, in the second half, Bournemouth seemed more likely to score. Yet, it was Kulusevski who capitalized, converting Destiny Udogie’s cross into a goal. Maddison’s presence has proven valuable, and his goal was slightly fortunate as his scuffed finish from Pape Sarr’s pass deceived the Bournemouth goalkeeper.
While Maddison shines, Richarlison struggles to replace Kane’s influence. The Brazilian forward had a frustrating game and was substituted after an hour. He missed a chance to extend Tottenham’s lead before halftime.
Tottenham’s failure to secure a larger lead nearly cost them, as Bournemouth started the second half strongly. Antoine Semenyo’s effort hit the side-netting, coming closest to an equalizer.

The second crucial goal was scored by Kulusevski, with Udogie providing the assist. Udogie, who was signed during the tenure of Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici, had been loaned back to Udinese but showcased his potential with this contribution.
The victory pushed Tottenham one point ahead of Arsenal, Brighton, and Manchester City at the league’s summit. Although Arsenal could regain the lead with a win against Fulham, and Manchester United also seek a resurgence after a sluggish start to their season.
