English women’s national team midfielder Lauren James has tendered a heartfelt apology to Nigerian fullback Michelle Alozie following her nasty challenge on her during Super Falcons round of 16 loss against the Three Lioness.
Lauren who has been fantastic at the 2023 Women’s world cup ended her tournament in shame after intentionally stepping on Alozie who had her in her pockets throughout her duration on the pitch.
While Lauren’s actions set the social media abuzz, with many fans demanding for a more severe sanction against her, Michelle called for calm and showed her support for her fellow athlete with the following tweet:
“abeg, rest. We are playing on the world’s stage. This game is one of passion, insurmountable emotions, and moments. all respect for Lauren James.”
In response to her tweet, Lauren James apologized Michelle and appealed to her teammates for letting them down with her actions.
She wrote: “All my love and respect to you. I am sorry for what happened. Also, for our England fans and my team-mates, playing with and for you is my greatest honour and I promise to learn from my experience.”
