Popular Nigerian skitmaker, Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni has cried out over the threat to his life for leading a fresh protest to end tolling at the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge.
Formerly, Mr Macaroni and five others were arrested in late 2020 for causing public discomfort when he and others protested at the Lekki tollgate for the October 2020 massacre of protesters.
Just last week, the Lekki concession company had made a public announcement that tolling will kick off at the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge today, been April 1st, 2022, after it was suspended owing to the public outcry for justice for those who were killed by security personnels during the EndSARS protest. Mr Macaroni reacting to the announcement, said there there is no tolling without justice. In reply to what he said, Prince Tiamuyi vowed to kill Mr Macaroni if he sees him.
Mr Macaroni however raised an alarm saying, “This is one of the many threats I receive regularly. Nigerian police and Lagos State Government… I love you, and I know you love me too”.
Many Nigerians are of the opinion that tolling should be suspended until justice is served. A journalist and broadcaster by name Idowu Bankole, warned that if the situation is not properly handled, it could lead to another crisis and even loss of lives. He further called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the matter.
