The 33-year-old singer was conferred with the prestigious title by the Prime minister of Barbados Mia Mottley, in a ceremony that was well attended by a large crowd. As Riri was called up before the crowd, Mottley told her: “May you continue to shine like a diamond and bring honour to your nation by your works, by your actions.”
The Prime minister stated some of the reasons why the talented songstress deserves her new honour. She made it known to all that Rihanna has an extraordinary commitment to the land of her birth. Rihanna has genuine love for her country which is reflected in her philanthropy, especially in the areas of health and education. Little wonder they made her an ambassador of the nation few years ago.
Rihanna also gave service to her birth country which has been exemplified by her vision and pioneering leadership, extraordinary achievement and the attainment of the highest excellence that is redundant to the honour of Barbados. Finally, Mottley pointed out that Rihanna’s pursuit of excellence with her creativity and discipline has placed her above all else.
Indeed we cannot deny the fact that Rihanna is worth more than several diamonds for her people and she deserves to be their hero. She is currently her home country’s 11th-ever National Hero.
